The joy of making self portraits has been with me before the ‘selfie” began on social media. As a teenager I would sit there with my camera and experiment all the ways I could see myself in the image. Whether that be a shadow, a close up or using a self timer when I had the chance. As an adult I now find myself still using the same old techniques plus a few more. My favorite self portraits now include me in front of a mirror and if the light is right I give it a go.
I don’t aim for perfection in these images, especially when I am using a mirror. I enjoy seeing the blur, marks and rawness that it brings. It allows you to let go of preconceived ideas and have fun with whatever you create.
Here are a few recent ones below and if you are keen to learn more about using film in your self portraits please get in touch and say hi!
